Coverage

The right policy for the job it has to do.

Every family needs something different. We start with what the money is for, then find the carrier and the policy that fit, at a premium you can keep paying.

Final Expense

Pays for the funeral, final medical bills and the small debts that get left behind, so your family isn't handed the cost. The premium never rises and the coverage never expires.

Best for: ages 50 to 85 who want something simple, permanent and affordable.

$5,000 – $50,000 · No exam

Term Life

The most coverage for the least cost, for a set number of years. It replaces a paycheck, pays off the house and keeps the kids' plans on track if you're not there to see them through.

Best for: working adults with a mortgage, children or a spouse who depends on their income.

10, 20 or 30 years · Up to $2,000,000

Whole Life

Permanent coverage with a premium that's fixed for life and a cash value that grows over time. One policy you'll never have to replace, and something to leave behind no matter when.

Best for: anyone who wants to lock in a rate for good and leave a guaranteed amount.

Mortgage Protection

Term coverage matched to your mortgage balance and term, so the house is paid off and your family stays in it. Many policies add living benefits you can use if you become seriously ill.

How we do business. In writing.

Life insurance only matters on the worst day of your family's life. Everything we do is built around one thing: making sure the policy pays on that day. Here's what that means in practice.

What you'll never get from us

  • Pressure to decide on the first call.
  • A bigger policy than your budget can carry. A policy that lapses protects no one.
  • Coaching on how to answer a health question.
  • A price we can't back up with the carrier's own numbers.
  • Your information sold or passed to anyone.
1

We ask every health question exactly the way the carrier asks it, and we write down your answer exactly as you give it.

Every life insurance policy has a two-year contestability window. If something happens in that window, the carrier pulls medical records and pharmacy history before paying. An application that was "cleaned up" can be rescinded, the premiums refunded, and the claim denied. An honest application is the only kind that pays, so that's the only kind we write.

2

We go through your medications before we quote anything.

Most simplified-issue decisions come from the prescription database, not the questions. Ninety seconds on your medications up front means the premium we quote is the one you're actually approved for, not a number that comes back higher after the carrier runs its check.

3

If you don't qualify for day-one coverage, we say so, then show you what you do qualify for.

Some health histories mean a graded policy, with a reduced benefit in the first two years, or a guaranteed-acceptance policy. Those are real, useful coverage. We explain exactly how they work before you sign, and we never dress one up as something it isn't.

4

Every price comes from the carrier's own quoting software. We don't estimate.

If underwriting comes back at a different rate than we quoted, we tell you the new number and what most likely drove it. You decide. A quote isn't final until the carrier approves it, and we'll never pretend otherwise.

5

We won't replace something that's already working.

If you have group life through your job, keep it; nothing beats free. If a policy has been assigned to a funeral home, replacing it can undo the funeral it was funding. We ask about both before we recommend anything, and when a replacement does make sense, the new policy is in force before the old one is cancelled.

6

You sign your own application, you know what you're signing, and you get a free look.

The two texts you receive at the end are a HIPAA authorization, which lets the underwriter check your health history and nothing else, and your electronic signature. We tell you what each one is. Nobody signs for anyone else.

Your policy packet arrives in five to ten business days. Read it. If anything isn't what we discussed, you cancel inside the free-look period and get every penny back.

Will I qualify?

Most people do. Here's how carriers see it.

No exam and no doctor's statement. Carriers decide from the health questions, an instant prescription-history check and an industry application database. Most answers come back in about five minutes.

Usually day-one coverage

Full benefit from the first day, often at a standard rate.

  • High blood pressure that's controlled
  • High cholesterol
  • Type 2 diabetes controlled with pills
  • Thyroid conditions
  • Arthritis and most joint problems
  • Anxiety or depression managed with medicationSome combinations move you to a different carrier, not out of coverage.
  • SmokersInsurable at smoker rates. Twelve months tobacco-free usually requalifies you.
  • A past felony or DUIIt changes which carrier, not whether you can own life insurance.

Usually graded or guaranteed acceptance

Still coverage, with a reduced benefit for natural causes in the first two years.

  • Cancer, or cancer treatment, within about the last five years
  • Insulin-dependent diabetes, or diabetes diagnosed young
  • Congestive heart failure
  • Dialysis or chronic kidney disease
  • Home oxygen
  • Needing help with bathing, dressing or eating
  • HIV

A graded policy commonly returns your premiums plus interest if death is from natural causes in the first two years, then pays in full. Guaranteed acceptance usually caps around $25,000 per policy. We'll tell you which one you're looking at, and why.

Things that change the answer

Tell us about these up front and we'll route you to the carrier that takes them.

  • Three or more blood-pressure medications
  • Pain-management or opioid prescriptions
  • Ozempic, Mounjaro and similarCarriers price these as diabetes, even when prescribed for weight loss. We record what it's truly for.
  • Tobacco or nicotine in the last 12 months
  • Height and weight outside the carrier's chart
  • An application to the same carrier in the last weekDuplicates decline automatically. Tell us what you've applied for.

The honest caveat: every carrier has its own rules and they change. Nothing on this page is a promise of approval, and a quote isn't final until the carrier's underwriting decides. The only way to know for sure takes about ten minutes on the phone.

What you'll pay

Six things set your premium. None of them is a mystery.

We give you the carrier's exact monthly number before you decide, never an estimate. Here's what goes into it.

Your age today

Every birthday raises the rate, which is the one reason not to wait. Where a carrier allows it, we can date a policy to just before your last birthday to lock the lower rate; you pay the premiums back to that date, and we walk through the math with you.

Tobacco

Any tobacco or nicotine in the last 12 months means smoker rates, and carriers test for it. Twelve months tobacco-free usually requalifies you for non-smoker rates, and some carriers will give them to you now if you commit to quitting.

Health and medications

Your answers and your prescription history decide the rate class. Controlled conditions usually price normally. We check your medications before quoting so there are no surprises.

Coverage amount

More coverage costs more, but the right number is the one that does the job without straining the budget. A smaller policy that stays in force beats a bigger one that lapses.

Day-one or graded

Day-one coverage pays in full from the start. Graded coverage costs more per dollar and limits the benefit in the first two years. We always quote day-one coverage first and only move to graded when your health history requires it.

How you pay

Monthly bank draft is standard, and most carriers can draft on the day your Social Security deposit lands. A few carriers require a traditional checking account; others take debit cards and online banks. Tell us how you bank and we'll pick a carrier that fits.

Carriers

Quoted from companies you know.

Each carrier treats age, health, medications and payment differently. Being independent means we place you with the one whose rules fit you, not the one that pays us.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

Do I need a medical exam?

Usually not. Final expense and most simplified-issue policies are decided from health questions you answer on the phone, an instant prescription-history check and an industry application database. No blood draw, no doctor's statement, and many carriers answer within about five minutes.

I've been turned down before. Can I still get coverage?

Very likely, yes. Carriers treat the same condition very differently, which is exactly why we're independent. A decline at one company often means a different carrier, a graded policy or a guaranteed-acceptance policy, and we'll tell you plainly which one you're looking at.

How much final expense coverage do I need?

Enough to cover the funeral and the bills that follow it. A funeral with burial commonly runs well into five figures once the cemetery and headstone are counted; cremation is less. Most people choose between $10,000 and $25,000, and we size it to your budget, because a policy you can keep paying is the one that pays out.

How much does it cost?

It depends on your age, health, tobacco use, the policy type and how much coverage you want. We give you the carrier's exact monthly premium before you decide, never an estimate. Final expense and whole life premiums are fixed, so the number you start with is the number you keep.

Will my payment ever go up?

On final expense and whole life, no. The premium is locked for life and the coverage can't be cancelled as long as it's paid. On term life, the premium is level for the term you choose (10, 20 or 30 years) and rises only if you keep it past that.

Can the payment line up with my Social Security deposit?

With most carriers, yes. We set the draft date to the day your deposit arrives, and the first payment can usually be scheduled up to about a month out. Tell us how you bank before we quote: a few carriers only draft from a traditional checking account, while others accept debit cards and online banks.

What's a graded policy?

A policy that pays a reduced benefit, commonly your premiums back plus interest, if death is from natural causes in the first two years, then the full amount after that. Accidental death is usually covered in full from day one. It exists so people with serious health histories can still be covered. We'll always tell you if that's what you're being offered.

How fast can I be covered?

Many carriers decide within minutes of the application. Coverage begins once the policy is issued and the first payment is made, often the same week. Your printed policy packet follows in five to ten business days.

What if I change my mind?

Every new policy comes with a free-look period after it's delivered, typically 10 to 30 days. Read it over. If anything isn't what we discussed, cancel and get a full refund, no questions asked.

I already have a policy. Should I replace it?

Often not. Group life through your employer is almost never worth replacing, and a policy assigned to a funeral home usually can't be replaced without undoing the funeral it funds. We'll only recommend a replacement when the new policy clearly serves you better, and the new one is in force before the old one is cancelled.

Can I change my beneficiary later?

Yes, at any time and at no cost. Call us and we'll handle the form with the carrier.

Are you an insurance company?

No. GoldCrest Life is an independent insurance agency licensed in Florida. We represent you in choosing a carrier, and your policy is issued and backed by the insurance company that underwrites it. We are not connected with Medicare, Medicaid or the Social Security Administration.

What happens when my family needs to make a claim?

They call us. We help them file the claim with the carrier, gather what's needed and stay on it until it's paid.
